Study Visit of the Summer School of Youth Leaders from the “Równać Szanse” Program

We were very glad to host at our Roma Community Center young people participating in the Równać Szanse “Summer School for Youth Leaders” program.

As a content partner of the program, we met with more than twenty young people from different regions of Poland and talked about the Roma community. The lecture focused on the history and culture of Roma people, as well as anti-Roma stereotypes, which both in the past and now result in social and systemic discrimination against this group.

The young leaders learned about the attitudes that can be taken towards exclusion and what it is like to work at a foundation that works for human rights.

The young leaders summed up our meeting with the words: “We are sure that this meeting with the leaders of the Roma community, who carry out various activities for the benefit of members of the minority, but also invite neighboring residents to these activities, left us with many important clues that we will use in our teenage activities.” Thank you for your commitment and we wish you good luck with your projects!

The meeting was led by Dr. Małgorzata Kołaczek – vice president of the FwSD, Paulina Piórkowska – head of beneficiary support strategy, Patrycja Mroczek and Roksana Mroczek – educators, cultural assistants and leaders from the Roma community. The organizers of the event were the Civis Polonus Foundation and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

The purpose of the RS Summer School for Youth Leaders is to develop the leadership competencies of young people associated with the Równać Szanse Program, such as the ability to plan and effectively implement social activities, as well as to deepen their knowledge of civic education.

Since 2001, the Równać Szanse Program has supported interesting social initiatives aimed at equalizing opportunities for a good start in adult life for young people from small towns and cities, by improving their social and emotional competencies.
